The good news first. From 1 July 2026, the tax rate on income between $18,201 and $45,000 drops from 16% to 15% - saving most workers up to $268 this year. There's also a new $1,000 instant tax deduction, no receipts required.

And for property investors, the rules just got tighter: from July 2027, negative gearing on established residential properties will no longer offset your other income. Capital gains tax concessions are also being reformed.
